The new Bond gun goes high-tech in Skyfall
October 22, 2012
In the upcoming 23rd installment of the James Bond series, “Skyfall”, James Bond is introduced to his new gun, the Walther PPK/S 9mm Short. It comes complete with palm print reader so only Bond can shoot it.
This lends to the idea that the Daniel Craig Bond movies (Skyfall being his third and two more planned) will address one of the only complaints of the recent direction of the series – not enough high-tech. The first two, “Casino Royale” and “Quantum of Solace”, were both given high marks by critics as reboots of the franchise into a darker, more character-driven series, but some complained that the cold nuances and focus on emotions pulled away from one of the trademarks of the whole series.
While we likely won’t be seeing jetpacks or laser watches, statements such as “welcome to the new MI-6″ and the introduction of the quartermaster, “Q”, means that the series is probably going to put more gadgets into the mix going forward.
The gun is similar to Bond’s “favorite” gun from many past movies. This one seems to be a Smith and Wesson, a departure from the original European version.
Here’s the trailer that mentions the gun. The movie is set to release on November 9th.
